Hi!! My name is Kate, I am a 19 year old student studying Elementary education at the University of Victoria. I hope to one day to become a Kindergarten teacher. I grew up in a very small town called Kitimaat on the Hisala Nation traditional territory. Kitimaat is a town situated very up north at the end of the road, only home to roughly 5000 people. Living in a town with not much to do it was almost inevitable that you spent lots of time outside. From fishing, hiking, swimming in the ocean and adventuring through the forest that was all very common for me growing up. As i grew up i always found the island fascinating and beautiful. Being surrounded by nature and water has always been something that I loved, so moving to the island for school was a no brainer. My goal as becoming a teacher is to find more ways to incorporate nature into education. Wether that be by having student work outside, going on walks or fun educational field trips. I truly believe that fresh air and nature is the best medicine. I found my true passion in teach by being a swim lessons teacher for 3 years. I fell in love with watching kids achieve their goals and knowing I was there to help them achieve said goals.
